100% Green Power.
Allstream Centre is powered exclusively by clean, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, low impact hydro, biomass, biodiesel or geothermal power through Renewable Energy Attributes (REC) from Direct Energy Business. This Renewable, or Green Power, is sourced from Ecologo certified generation facilities, which ensures that the generation is derived from natural sources that replenish themselves over short periods-of-time. Since all sources of electricity—whether they come from renewable or non-renewable sources—are combined once they are added to the grid, the purchase of the renewable attributes (REC) guarantee that Allstream Centre's energy purchase is supporting the production of clean, renewable electricity. Using 100% Green Power results in energy consumption savings equal to removing 168 cars off the road per year, and a reduction of carbon dioxide equivalent to 422 acres of planted trees annually.
Electronic way finding and meeting room signage.
Eliminate the waste and cost of unsightly easel signage by utilizing our complimentary electronic signage system. Meeting Planners can list their meeting topics and room numbers on our flat-screen way finding signs located at the main entrance, and throughout the corridors and lounges of Allstream Centre. Meeting Rooms boast programmable LCD screens at the entrance doors listing the meeting topic, times with the ability to post convention/corporate logos.
Energy efficient lighting.
Dimmable, client controlled lighting in the Ballroom, meeting rooms and client office suites allow for superior lighting levels. LED-technology was utilized in our Allstream Centre’s exterior building signage for its superior energy efficiency.
Linen-free meeting rooms.
Classroom set-ups feature linen-free tables as a standard set in our convention and exhibition venues including Allstream Centre and Direct Energy Centre. Using ergonomic T-leg, Green Guard Certified, classroom tables will serve to eliminate linens which will to conserve water, and reduce environmentally harmful dry-cleaning. Attractive, perforated-metal modesty panels are fit into our classroom tables in the first row, and head table, eliminating skirting.
Breathe Healthy Air.
Low VOC paints, carpets and furnishings contribute to cleaner air for your attendees. Our HVAC systems meet stringent LEED requirements with CO2 sensors and fresh air exchange.
Rainwater Harvesting.
Rainwater is collected from the roof of Allstream Centre, is environmentally treated, stored in a cistern, and used only in the water closets. This eliminates the use of City-treated water to flush toilets. Tap water remains potable City-treated water.
Natural light.
Meeting rooms on the north, east and west side of Allstream Centre have windows, with sunshades, allowing attendees to benefit from natural light. Full AV blackout shades are provided on all windows to allow for AV presentations. Windows from the second floor lounges and the south corridor provide stunning lake and city views. Pre-function spaces and the Lakeside Room on the main floor are bathed in natural light with both city and lake views.
We Recycle.
Our recycling program separates and recycles waste materials (including glass, paper, wood, plastic and food waste). Exhibition Place including its convention and exhibition venues use and recycles 100% PC hand towels for all of our public washrooms, and has recycling and safe disposal programs for special items such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, paint and toner cartridges. To date, we are already diverting over 79% of our overall waste.
Perishable food donations and organic recycling.
Allstream Centre and Direct Energy Centre’s Food & Beverage departments work with local agencies to donate perishable foods to shelters and food banks in the City of Toronto. Food waste is donated to local farmers.
Locally Grown Food.
As part of our commitment to the environment we barnstormed farms in Holland Marsh, met farmers and other producers at markets in Toronto & conferred with Local Foods Plus. Our F&B department now works with local farmers to bring in locally grown foods for catered events.
Compostable Food Packaging Recycling Program.
Meeting Planners requesting disposable dishware will be pleased to know that Allstream Centre uses compostable: hot and cold cups, lids and straws, plates, napkins, utensils. This means that there is zero waste and everything goes in the compost. Allstream Centre has a 4-stream recycling program for paper, plastic & cans, compostable food waste and litter.
An urban forestry program
An urban forestry program, which preserves and renews the urban forest. There are over 2,750 trees across the site and with an annual plan to increase native spaces. The site is watered using lake-water irrigation piped from nearby Lake Ontario.
Use of (Forestry Stewardship Council) FSC paper products.
Allstream Centre's Business Centre, operated by RICOH utilizes FSC recycled paper for clients photocopy and printing needs.
Hybrid Parking.
A total of 14 parking spaces are provided exclusively for energy efficient hybrid electric/gasoline vehicles. These preferred spaces are located in Lots 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the indoor garage, in close proximity to the wheelchair accessible spaces. The preferred location of the hybrid spaces recognizes the contribution that owners are making towards lowering emissions, and the use of the spaces is left to the discretion of drivers. Regular parking rates apply.
